Maker Skirt
The original Maker Skirt is a piece of my wardrobe that I always wanted, but never found. Many women are making things all day long. This is the option for you who want to wear an apron that actually looks like it entered the 2000’nds. Combine an easy-to-wear, long-lasting, wrap-around skirt and your new idea of what an apron really should be and t will truly grow into your new favorite. I was fed up wearing jeans all the time when doing practical stuff. Basically I am doing practical stuff all the time, so you will see me rock this skirt for years to come. The best part is that the denim is fair produced and GOTS certified. Sourced by Annika Axelsson at Bydem Gothenburg.
The story of the Maker Skirt started when I decided to join forces with Annika Axelson around bringing By Dem to a larger audience.
Annika created a solid sustainable production chain with her company By Dem Sweden, and had it all down' in a system: from the organic cottonseed plantation to rolls of fabrics at her partner factories in India.
I had many years of design and manufactory experience, mostly from the glass blowing industry, and I saw an opportunity to create a garment missing from the Women's Maker scene.
The Maker Skirt is a wrap-around skirt with 2 big pockets in the front, one mobile phone pocket on the left side, and a key chain or tool loop on the right side. The skirt overlaps in the back, as opposed to the traditional wrap-around skirt that overlaps in the front. The Maker Skirt is one of the most versatile garments, the fit is flexible with an adjusting tie. You can tie your skirt in front, on the side, or even in the back if you want to get rid of the ties for practical reasons. We made one short version that you can wear over jeans for projects and an "apron-feel" or just as a skirt on it's own. The same could be said of the long version, since some Makers: chefs, servers, wood workers and more, prefer an added length for a more elegant look, even with jeans or leggings underneath.
One of many great things about the Maker Skirt is that you can dress it up, and you can dress it down.
